Our Trip to England
Over the past three years the exchange between Caistor Grammar School in North Lincolnshire and our school has become some kind of tradition. After a very long trip we finally arrived in Caistor where all our exchange partners welcomed us cordially with name plates.
We spent the following weekend with our host families so that we got to know them better. Moreover, they organised some activities for us to show what their free time is like.
We also learned a lot about English culture by visiting two typical cities:
First, we visited Cambridge on a very sunny day. Our time was split into some free time and a guided tour during which we learned a lot, e.g. about the famous colleges.
On Thursday we went to York which is a beautiful old city. There we also took part in a city tour and enjoyed the time to explore the city on our own and to buy some souvenirs.
Apart from our trips to several sights, we went to Caistor Grammar School.
The school day begins - in contrast to Germany - with an assembly on Mondays and Fridays. It is a meeting with all the students where they learn something about a specific topic which is chosen by the teachers and about important aspects about their school. This time the topic was “Against the tide”. Several students read out interesting poems by Shakespeare, Hanley and many other authors. After this assembly we attended the lessons that our exchange partners had. This was pretty exciting because some of the lessons were completely different to ours.
After school we once visited a primary school nearby Caistor Grammar School where the pupils sang some of their favourite songs for us, including a “penguin song” with a lot of dancing. We sang “Alle Vögel sind schon da”, in return for their great performance. Afterwards the head teacher showed us the whole school.
On another day we did a two-hour walk taking us into the Lincolnshire Woods. Unfortunately, it was very foggy so we could not see the beautiful landscape surrounding Caistor.
In conclusion, we really enjoyed our trip to England and we are definitely looking forward to seeing our exchange partners in Germany again in May.
